Lidl's 95p cornflakes have been named the best supermarket option in a taste test, beating Kellogg's branded Corn Flakes, while Asda's version ranked last.
Mia O'Hare, Senior Spare Time Reporter, compared cornflakes from Asda, Tesco, Lidl, Aldi and Marks and Spencer against Kellogg's, assessing both flavour and cost. The cereals were tried dry and with milk.
Rankings and Results
Asda's cornflakes, priced at £1.15, came bottom with a 5/10 rating. They were described as less sweet and less crunchy than Kellogg's, with a dry texture and a lack of flavour.
Tesco, Marks and Spencer and Aldi all scored 7/10. Tesco's 95p cornflakes were crispy and less dry than Asda's, with a noticeably paler appearance. Marks and Spencer's version offered a pleasing texture that struck a balance without being overly firm, though it was less sweet than Kellogg's and bore a strong resemblance to Tesco and Aldi. Aldi's cereal had a firm texture with a satisfying crunch but fell short on sweetness and had a somewhat dry quality.
Kellogg's and the Winner
Kellogg's Corn Flakes, priced at £2.45 from Asda, scored 9/10. They were praised for striking an ideal balance between sweet and savoury, with the right amount of crunch, and stood out from supermarket options that struggled to replicate its flavour.
Lidl's cornflakes, at 95p, scored 10/10 and were the clear winner. They had the closest resemblance to the branded product, being noticeably darker than other supermarket versions and mirroring Kellogg's appearance. The cereal replicated the brand's flavour and texture perfectly, leaving little reason to choose the branded version next time.
