Major Lotto Revamp to Double Millionaires
Concurrently, the National Lottery has revealed that players will receive two chances to win for every £2 ticket purchased in its primary Lotto game. This transformation, set to roll out from June 7, is projected to more than double the annual number of Lotto millionaires—from approximately 140 to about 345. This represents the most substantial overhaul since Lotto's inception in 1994.
The inaugural two-round draw is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, with Lotto draws continuing at around 8 PM every Saturday and Wednesday. Andria Vidler, Chief Executive of Allwyn, stated, "We are delivering on our promise to bring more games, more entertainment, and more innovation to The National Lottery."
Enhancing Player Experience and Good Causes
Vidler added, "With extensive upgrades to our digital and retail channels now complete, we have a fantastic summer lined up, as we are now able to bring these exciting new games to our players." She emphasized that by offering a diverse range of complementary games, Allwyn aims to ensure there is something for everyone—reinvigorating the magic, expanding the player base, and keeping The National Lottery a focal point of national discourse.
The company highlighted that the new games will amplify returns for good causes, with the Powerball draw allocating over 30% of ticket prices to charitable initiatives. This is expected to generate an additional £1 billion over the first five years. Vidler noted, "This will raise more money for good causes, helping us reach our goal of doubling weekly returns to good causes from £30 million to £60 million by 2034, with £33 million a week currently raised."
Record Sales and Economic Impact
Allwyn recently reported that total National Lottery sales, including retail purchases, reached £8.1 billion in 2025, marking a 3.5% increase from the previous year. More than £1.7 billion was generated for good causes—encompassing funding for health, education, arts, sports heritage, and charitable endeavors—while £967 million was contributed in taxes.
