Vauxhall has issued a 'stop-drive' recall notice covering up to 82,000 vehicles with outstanding safety issues linked to Takata airbag inflators. The order applies to five models, all manufactured between 2005 and 2018, and follows multiple written communications to registered keepers.
Affected models and scope
The recall affects Vauxhall Astra 5th generation ('H' version) models from 2005 to 2013, Vauxhall Astravan 5th generation ('H' version) cars from 2005 to 2013, Vauxhall Astra Twin Top models from 2005 to 2012, Vauxhall Vectra models from 2005 to 2008, and Vauxhall Signum models from 2005 to 2008.
Stellantis, Vauxhall's parent company, said that many owners have already responded to recall letters and had the work completed, but thousands still have issues outstanding.
Stellantis response and progress
A statement from Stellantis said: "Recalls of certain airbag inflators from the manufacturer Takata are ongoing and affect vehicles from many automotive brands and manufacturers worldwide."
The statement added: "Since the launch of these recalls, Stellantis has implemented a broad range of measures, including extensive stop-drive actions and major customer outreach campaigns, with one objective: protecting customers and replacing all affected Takata airbags in Stellantis vehicles. By the end of August 2026, more than four million vehicles from Stellantis brands equipped with Takata airbags have been replaced already across Europe, with progress continuing steadily."
Safety advice and next steps
Stellantis said the stop-drive decision was based on the latest monitoring data and the aging characteristics of the airbag inflators. The company stressed that customer safety remains its highest priority, with vehicles receiving stop-drive warnings well before the airbag's safe service lifetime ends.
Stellantis urged affected owners to stop driving as soon as they receive a stop-drive notification and to contact their authorised retailer immediately to arrange a free repair. Owners are permitted to drive directly to a place of repair. A dedicated Recall Helpline is available on 0800 9179285, and customers can check if their vehicle is affected using the VIN check tool on the Vauxhall website.
