Marks & Spencer (M&S) has unveiled its newly refurbished flagship store on London's Oxford Street, named Pantheon, following a major revamp that the retailer intends to replicate across its estate. The store spans almost 100,000 square feet across four floors, housing food, fashion, home, and beauty sections.
New Features and Layout
The Pantheon store introduces several new features, including a made-to-order suit fitting service within the menswear section and a dedicated beauty hall showcasing M&S own-label ranges alongside other brands. The homeware section has been expanded and includes a Kelly Hoppen range displayed in a section designed by the interior designer and TV personality. Digital screens displaying outfit inspiration, bespoke scents, and curated playlists are also part of the enhanced shopping experience.
Blueprint for Future Stores
M&S stated it is treating the Pantheon layout and shop features as a blueprint for future stores. The retailer is currently undertaking five other refurbishments and four new store developments in London, along with additional openings and renewals across the UK. This includes a major redevelopment of its Marble Arch store, also on Oxford Street, which received government approval in 2024 after a three-year planning battle involving court cases and opposition from heritage and sustainability experts. The Marble Arch project aims to rebuild the store into a nine-storey building housing retail space, a cafe, a gym, and an office.
CEO's Remarks
Stuart Machin, M&S's chief executive, said the refurbished Pantheon opening is “a good example of our strategy to protect the magic and modernise the rest, holding on to the quality, style and value people know and trust us for, while making the experience more modern.” He added, “We’ve still got a lot to do modernising our estate, with 25 years of catching up to do. But Pantheon is a big step forward.”
