Ford has announced a significant recall affecting more than 42,000 vehicles across the United States due to a critical issue with fuel injectors that could pose serious safety risks. The recall includes some of Ford's most popular models, such as the F-150 pickup truck and the Expedition SUV, manufactured between 2021 and 2022.
What's the Problem?
The recall stems from a potential fault in the fuel injectors, which may crack and leak fuel. In extreme cases, this could lead to an engine compartment fire, even when the vehicle is turned off. Ford has identified this as a serious safety hazard, prompting immediate action.
Which Models Are Affected?
The recall specifically targets:
- 2021-2022 Ford F-150 vehicles with 3.5-litre EcoBoost engines
- 2021-2022 Ford Expedition SUVs with 3.5-litre EcoBoost engines
Owners of these vehicles are being urged to check their VIN numbers on Ford's official recall website to confirm if their vehicle is included.
What Should Owners Do?
Ford has stated that dealerships will inspect and replace faulty fuel injectors free of charge. Additionally, they will install a drain tube to safely divert any potential fuel leaks away from hot surfaces, reducing fire risk.
The company advises owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until repairs are completed, as a precaution against possible fires.
Ford's Response
A Ford spokesperson stated: "We are committed to the safety of our customers and are moving quickly to address this issue. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and assure owners that we will resolve this matter at no cost to them."
This recall follows several reports of fuel leaks, though Ford claims no accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue.
