Cristo Fernandez, the actor who brought Dani Rojas to life on the Apple TV series Ted Lasso, has officially signed a professional soccer contract with El Paso Locomotive FC of the USL Championship. The deal, announced on Tuesday, is pending approval from the second-tier league and the U.S. Soccer Federation, and the terms have not been disclosed.
Fernandez earned his spot after a two-month trial with the club, which included an appearance in a preseason match against New Mexico United. Prior to his acting career, Fernandez played soccer at the youth level until an injury at age 15 forced him to pivot to acting. Reflecting on his journey, Fernandez stated, "No matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart. I'm incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC — the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates — for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one."
El Paso Locomotive head coach Junior Gonzalez welcomed Fernandez, describing him as a great addition who provides an attacking threat and brings passion and leadership to the locker room. Fernandez, who portrayed the exuberant forward on Ted Lasso, now transitions from fiction to reality as he embarks on his professional soccer career.
