Baker, 49, Strangled by Scarf in Tragic Bread Machine Accident
Baker killed after scarf caught in bread machine

A community in Greece is in mourning after a beloved local baker was tragically killed in a horrific accident at her own bakery.

Zoe Letsiou, 49, died after the scarf she was wearing became entangled in a bread-making machine, causing it to tighten around her neck and strangle her.

The Tragic Discovery

The incident unfolded when customers at the bakery, located near the city of Larissa, grew concerned after the owner, Zoe Letsiou, was unexpectedly absent from the shop front.

Alarmed by her disappearance, they promptly contacted the emergency services. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but despite their desperate efforts to resuscitate the 49-year-old, she was pronounced dead at her business.

How the Accident Happened

Investigations and statements from relatives point to a devastating sequence of events. It is believed that Zoe was cleaning the industrial bread maker after finishing production for the day.

The scarf around her neck somehow became caught in the machine's rollers. As the kneading mechanism continued to operate, the scarf was pulled taut, acting as a noose and leading to fatal suffocation.

Zoe's brother-in-law confirmed she was cleaning the equipment at the time. Another local baker, speaking to Greek broadcaster ANT1, echoed this, stating: "The woman had finished production and was cleaning the machine... She was wearing a scarf which, when the machine started, got caught in the rollers and became a noose."

Community in Mourning

News of the tragedy has sent shockwaves through the small village of Damasi, approximately 30km north west of Larissa, where Zoe was a well-known and cherished figure.

Heartfelt tributes have poured in from grieving locals. One person expressed their sorrow, saying: "Give courage to her family to bear the pain."

Another tribute read: "What a shame, young woman. My deepest condolences to the family," capturing the sense of loss felt by the entire community. The incident serves as a stark and tragic reminder of the hidden dangers that can exist in everyday workplaces.
