Morrisons Launches Pet and Travel Insurance with More Points

Morrisons has launched pet and travel insurance for its customers, partnering with insurance specialist Hood Group to offer the coverage. The new policies are tied to the supermarket's More Card loyalty programme, with shoppers receiving 20,000 More Points when purchasing a pet insurance policy and a 10% discount on travel insurance. Every 5,000 More Points can be converted into a Morrisons Fiver for use in-store or online.

New Insurance Products and Coverage Details

Morrisons Pet Insurance offers three tiers of lifetime coverage with annual veterinary fee limits of £2,500, £5,000, and £10,000. Customers also gain access to a UK-based Pet Health Assist Line operated by vets and nurses around the clock. Morrisons Travel Insurance is available in three tiers and includes gadget protection as standard for direct purchases.

Pet insurance policies are underwritten by Burns & Wilcox Global Solutions Limited on behalf of Accredited Insurance (UK) Limited, while travel insurance is underwritten by AXA. Morrisons stated the products are designed to provide straightforward coverage in areas many customers frequently need.

Growing Trend Among Supermarkets

The move follows similar expansions by competitors including Tesco, Asda, and Sainsbury's into financial services. Tesco already offers a wide range of insurance products, while Asda has ventured into motor, home, gadget, and business insurance via partnerships. Sainsbury's continues to operate in the sector after Allianz acquired its home and motor insurance policies previously sold through Sainsbury's Bank.

The launch received praise from Hood Group, which created and operates the digital insurance platform underpinning the products.
