UK weather maps show exact date snow arrives as 0C Arctic chill hits

Weather maps indicate that the UK could experience its first snowfall later this month, with bitterly cold temperatures set to grip the country. According to maps generated by WXCharts, an Arctic chill is on the way, with several parts of Britain expected to wake up to freezing conditions on October 25.

The cold conditions are forecast to begin around 6am, with areas in Scotland seeing snow by midday. The maps suggest that the Highlands, Perth and Kinross, and Argyll & Bute are likely to witness the snowy conditions.

Freezing temperatures across the UK

Almost the whole of the UK could freeze in the bitterly cold temperatures. Parts of north east England could see temperatures plummet to as low as 1C at 6am on October 25, with lows of just 4C as far south as London.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast between October 20 and 29 reads: "There are growing signs that high pressure, which is likely to still extend across the country at the start of this period, will reduce in its influence through next week. This will allow a more unsettled regime to develop as spells of wet and windy weather arrive from the Atlantic followed by drier though still showery interludes."

Changeable weather pattern expected

The forecast adds: "While there is still a chance that high pressure will build near the UK again during late October, it is more likely that a changeable regime will continue once established. This would see temperature varying around average with some milder spells, especially in the south."

The change in the weather pattern comes a week after the Met Office predicted wetter conditions for parts of England and Wales. Looking ahead to next week, forecasters have indicated that conditions could become more unsettled as low pressure begins to exert a greater influence across the UK.

Coldest areas on October 25

The Met Office said that rain or showers are expected to affect parts of England and Wales on Monday and Tuesday, with southern regions currently most likely to see wet weather.

The coldest areas on October 25, according to the maps, include Angus, Stirling, Falkirk, Clackmannanshire, and Argyll & Bute at 0C; Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen city, Perth and Kinross, Glasgow city, East Renfrewshire, North Ayrshire, Greater Manchester, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire at 1C; and Falkirk, West Lothian, and Dumfries and Galloway at 2C.
