Man City Cut Wage Bill By Over £50m in Squad Revamp

Manchester City have reduced their wage bill by more than £50 million following a summer squad overhaul, with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak describing the past year as 'pivotal' for the club's long-term strengthening. The club's latest accounts show wages fell from £412 million to £408 million, but that figure does not include the departures of several high earners after the accounting period ended.

Players such as Ederson, Kyle Walker, and Ilkay Gundogan have left the club, while loanees Jack Grealish and Manuel Akanji have also been removed from the wage bill. The arrivals of Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford, among other summer signings, will offset some of the savings, but City's overall wage bill is expected to fall well below the £400 million mark.

Al Mubarak said: 'I believe that we may look back on this year as one that was pivotal for the ongoing and long-term strengthening of the club.' He acknowledged that last season's football results were 'less than we had hoped for', citing a run of significant injuries, but expressed confidence that the challenges would make the club stronger.

City reported a loss of £9.9 million for the 2024/25 season, during which they failed to win any silverware for the first time in eight years. Revenue reached £694 million, the third-highest in the club's history, though slight declines were seen across commercial, broadcast, and matchday income.
