A 63-year-old grandfather from Perthshire has revealed how he spent his £1.02 million Postcode Lottery win on a luxury bungalow, a top-of-the-range Mercedes, and new golf clubs. Davie Crowder, from Bridge of Earn, won the life-changing sum in April last year and has since treated himself and his family.
Davie, a former sergeant in the Black Watch and detective constable with Grampian Police, said the win provided security for his family. 'It's made my life so much easier,' he said. 'I've been able to help my family and friends, which I would do anyway, but not to that extent.' He also made a donation to Dunkeld Golf Club to help them buy a new tractor.
Davie won alongside 10 neighbours in their close-knit village estate after the postcode PH2 9FG won the Millions prize on April 27. A further 522 players in six nearby villages won cheques ranging from £8,629 to £43,145. Davie said he plays the lottery to support charities like Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA), which receives £300,000 a year from Postcode Lottery funding.
Davie visited SCAA's base at Perth Airport and praised the charity's life-saving work. 'I never join these lotteries to win; I like contributing to them,' he said. 'You just have to look at the helicopter out there, to see what the benefit is.' In the year to March, SCAA had nearly 1,000 callouts, airlifted 326 patients, and covered almost 83,000 nautical miles.
