Eddie Howe has sensationally quit Newcastle United just two games into pre-season, with a 4-1 defeat at Bristol City on Wednesday night his final match in charge. In his last interview as manager, Howe insisted he will always love the club.
Howe Steps Down After Bristol City Defeat
The Magpies boss had been under pressure after a disappointing end to last season, which saw Newcastle finish 12th in the Premier League and miss out on Europe. Now, Howe and Newcastle are set to part company.
Speaking pitchside at Ashton Gate, a sombre Howe tried to appear upbeat but admitted it had been another turbulent summer, having lost Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and potentially Bruno Guimaraes.
Upheaval and Optimism
"There's been a lot of upheaval at the football club with potentially more to come," he said. "I think there's always reasons to be optimistic and that's very much my default setting. I believe great things are possible every season with a real buzz of what's ahead. I see no reasons to be any different this year."
Love for the Club
Howe was asked if he was still relishing the fight at Newcastle despite the issues he has faced. "Every day as Newcastle manager is a great day for me," he replied. "I absolutely love the football club and that will never change."
