Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is set to receive £247,000 from his former club Sao Paulo after a formal agreement was reached to settle a long-standing labour dispute. The case, which had been active since 2014, involved claims related to employment payments from his academy days at the Brazilian club.
According to Brazilian outlet UOL, via Sport Witness, the regional labour court approved the settlement this week. The original claim was understood to be around £290,000, but the final figure was slightly less. The dispute covered image-rights charges, match-related earnings, bonuses and holiday entitlements.
Casemiro will receive the payment on a monthly basis over the next 12 months. However, the agreement includes a clause that could see the total rise to up to £363,000 if Sao Paulo fail to keep up with the payment schedule. The club has agreed to these terms.
The 33-year-old transferred from Sao Paulo to Real Madrid in 2013 before joining Manchester United. Despite leaving his boyhood club over a decade ago, he remained linked to Sao Paulo due to the unresolved financial claims. The resolution provides a financial boost on top of his substantial weekly wage at United.
