E.ON Next has applied a £150 discount to more than half a million customers' accounts through the Government's Warm Home Discount scheme. The energy supplier said 565,000 customers have already automatically received the payment as a credit to their energy accounts to use over the colder winter months.
The discount aims to help people heat their homes in winter. The Government began sending letters to tell Brits they were eligible for the scheme last week, and they will continue to arrive until January 2027. E.ON Next said it has started applying Warm Home Discount payments as early as possible, helping households on lower incomes pay their bills throughout winter.
Payments to continue until March
E.ON Next will continue issuing payments until the end of March as the supplier continues to receive new customer details from the Government. The £150 is not paid in cash; people receive credit on their accounts through their energy supplier. It is usually applied automatically, but if anyone needs to provide further information to receive the funding, they should receive instructions in a letter from the Government, and they must phone the helpline before February 26, 2027.
Ramona Vlasiu, chief operating officer at E.ON Next, said: “For a number of years, we’ve worked to apply Warm Home Discount payments to eligible customers’ bills as early as possible, so they can benefit as winter approaches. We know many households are already carefully managing their finances, and the colder months can bring added pressure as energy use increases to keep homes warm.
“We also have a range of support available to customers who need it. Depending on their circumstances, support can include direct financial help, affordable repayment plans and access to specialist advice.”
Scheme expanded to more households
The Warm Home Discount is now supplied to every billpayer on means-tested benefits. Nearly 2.3 million additional families received the rebate last year following the expansion of the scheme. Six million households across Britain are set to benefit from the £150 discount this year.
Minister for energy consumers Polly Billington said: "I know that many families will be struggling with their energy bills this winter. That is why I urge those who think they qualify for the Warm Home Discount to keep an eye out for a letter confirming their eligibility."
"Energy is an absolute essential, which is exactly why in October we cut VAT on all electricity bills and earlier this year we removed £150 of costs off bills, giving families breathing space this winter."
Earlier this year, the Government confirmed that millions of eligible households will receive the Warm Home Discount for the rest of the decade, with the scheme set to continue through to 2030/31.
