A Cambridge woman has expressed outrage after a driver parked across her driveway, leaving her unable to use her car for eight hours. Toni Stannard, of King's Hedges Road, found her vehicle trapped between 10am and 6pm on September 5, describing the behaviour as 'unacceptable on any level'. She noted that such incidents are recurring and emphasised that drivers should know better than to park near or across a dropped kerb.
Stannard contacted Cambridgeshire County Council's enforcement team at 10.19am to report the issue, but no assistance arrived. A council spokesperson acknowledged the frustrations, stating: 'We encourage everyone to park with consideration for others. Those who don't may receive a penalty charge notice from our civil enforcement officers. However, we have limited resources and that means we are not always able to respond to all requests.' The spokesperson added that residents with urgent issues could also contact the police.
Parking disputes are a common source of neighbourly tension. In separate incidents, one driver was reported to have parked a BMW in the middle of the street, blocking access for nine houses, while another resident admitted to moving their car forward by two feet each time a neighbour parked in front of their home, effectively reclaiming the space as a form of quiet revenge.
