Olivia and Liam have once again claimed the top spots as the most popular baby names in the United States for 2025, according to data released by the Social Security Administration. This marks the seventh consecutive year that both names have held the number one position in the annual ranking.
Consistency in the Top 10
The list, which is compiled from Social Security card applications submitted at birth for the previous calendar year, shows that the top 10 names for 2025 remained largely unchanged from the prior year. Among girls, Charlotte climbed to second place, ending Emma’s six-year tenure in the runner-up slot. Other top names for girls included Amelia, Sophia, Isabella, and Mia, while for boys, Noah, Oliver, James, Elijah, and Mateo rounded out the top five after Liam.
Notable Changes
After being a mainstay in the top 10 for several years, Ava dropped off the list entirely. Replacing it is Eliana, a name of Hebrew origin meaning “my God has answered,” which debuted at number 10. This shift reflects evolving parental preferences and cultural influences in naming trends.
The Social Security Administration releases the list annually ahead of Mother’s Day, offering insights into naming patterns across the country. The full list of 1,000 most popular names is available online, providing a comprehensive look at the diverse choices of American parents.
