Kelly Ward, a team leader at Eothen Care Homes in Gosforth, Newcastle, has been honoured for her selfless dedication over a 30-year career. She joined the home in June 1996 at age 16 as an apprentice after completing work experience there.
Over the years, Ward progressed from night carer to senior carer before becoming team leader. Louise Nicholson, Home Manager at Gosforth, said: "Kelly is one of our longest serving members of staff, second to our CEO with 33 years' service and we consider this a huge achievement, showing excellent commitment and dedication."
Surprise Party and Recognition
Staff and residents organised a surprise party to celebrate Ward's three decades of service, complete with cake, flowers and face masks of the team leader. Her daughter, who also completed an apprenticeship at the home and recently became a senior carer, joined the celebrations.
Reflecting on the milestone, Ward said: "Looking back over the past 30 years, I feel incredibly lucky. I'm still here, still smiling, and still grateful to be part of such a fantastic team. I've made friendships that will last a lifetime, shared countless special moments, and have loved being part of so many residents' lives."
Residents and Colleagues Praise Kelly
Resident Hilda Thompson, who has lived at Eothen for over eight years, said: "Kelly has always been a sunny individual; she is always so helpful and bubbly." Another resident, Marion Hately, who has been at the home for three years, added: "Kelly is one of the nicest, caring people of all time. I think she is so helpful at all times of the day and one of a kind."
Staff member Laura Chambers, who has worked with Ward for nearly 11 years, said: "Kelly was working nightshift and trained me well. We have then worked our way to day staff, seniors and now team leaders together! Kelly is amazing, she has such a genuine heart. She is an amazing person inside and out."
