Motus Commercials Opens New Facility at Ravenscraig

A North Lanarkshire company has relocated to Ravenscraig in a major boost to the site. Construction of the highly anticipated 38,000 sq ft commercial vehicle workshop and sales facility for Motus Commercials is now complete and officially open.

Located within the dedicated employment zone, the new facility is fully operational and ready to serve customers. This milestone marks a significant step in the ongoing regeneration of one of Europe’s largest brownfield sites and will contribute to the economic growth of North Lanarkshire.

The modern, purpose-built centre is set to support the sales, servicing and parts supply of DAF Trucks, enabling Motus Commercials, the UK’s largest DAF dealer group, to meet the increasing demand from customers across the region. The company is relocating from its previous site in Bellshill to this expanded location, allowing for improved working conditions and the capacity to grow its operations.

Provost Welcomes New Facility

North Lanarkshire Provost Kenneth Duffy welcomed the opening, stating: “This new facility at Ravenscraig is a fantastic addition to our community. It not only signifies the ongoing regeneration of the site but also demonstrates our commitment to supporting local businesses and creating new employment opportunities. We’re proud to see such a major investment coming to life here.”

The development follows recent planning approval for a new £10 million employment hub adjacent to the Motus Commercials site, further cementing Ravenscraig’s status as a thriving centre for industry and innovation.

Commitment to Growth

When construction began back in 2025, Matt Lawrenson, managing director of Motus Commercials, added: “This purpose-built site reflects our commitment to growth and delivering best-in-class services for our customers, while also providing high-quality jobs and modern working conditions for our team. We’re proud to be part of Ravenscraig’s regeneration journey and look forward to the opportunities this new location will bring.”

With direct motorway access and additional development plots available, Ravenscraig continues to attract investment, strengthening its position as a key industrial hub in Scotland’s central belt.

Masterplan Progress

After the planning application was confirmed back in 2024, Russell Wilkie, Director at Ravenscraig Limited, said: “In recent months we’ve made significant progress towards delivering our overall masterplan for Ravenscraig, attracting new businesses to the site and securing high-quality employment opportunities that will benefit the area for years to come. This investment is the next step in delivering a self-sufficient community with even more to follow.”
