The Reds have underperformed since winning the Premier League in 2025, falling to fifth place as reigning champions last term. This was despite breaking their transfer record twice, first for Florian Wirtz in a deal potentially rising to £116m, followed by a £125m move for Alexander Isak. Isak's debut campaign was disrupted by injury, while Wirtz did not shine under Arne Slot's system, though both have shown improvement under Iraola.
Top earners and potential departures
Captain Virgil van Dijk tops the wage list with an estimated £350,000 weekly salary. He is followed by Isak and Ryan Gravenberch, both on £280,000-per-week, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo each earning £250,000 weekly.
Gakpo has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City throughout the summer, with the 27-year-old potentially leaving for up to £85m. The club signing Spanish prospect Victor Munoz and closing in on a deal for PSG winger Bradley Barcola could prompt the Reds to cash in on the Netherlands international, removing his £250,000 weekly earnings from the wage bill.
Other players who could be sold
Federico Chiesa, who reportedly earns £150,000-per-week, has made just nine starts since signing last summer. The 28-year-old is recovering from injury and faces competition from Barcola, Munoz, Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha upon his return. Harvey Elliott, earning approximately £65,000-per-week, has not been included in either of Iraola's matchday squads. The Liverpool ECHO reports interest from Valencia and several other European clubs.
Veteran defensive midfielder Wataru Endo has started just two league games since the 2024/25 campaign, with the 33-year-old earning £50,000 weekly. Stefan Bajcetic is reportedly nearing a move to Celta Vigo as the 21-year-old looks to reignite his injury-hit career, allowing Liverpool to recoup his estimated £40,000-per-week wages.

Parting ways with Gakpo, Chiesa, Elliott, Endo and Bajcetic would save the club approximately £555,000-per-week, amounting to £28.86m annually.
