Everton Q&A: Shock Signings, Grealish, and Injury Updates

Everton FC correspondent Joe Thomas has addressed fan questions covering potential late signings, Jack Grealish's possible return, Christian Norgaard's injury status, and Under-21 loan moves as the new season approaches.

Potential Shock Signing Before Deadline

Responding to a fan question about a potential shock signing, Thomas said yes, citing the Friedkin Group's transfer strategy. He noted that at Roma, they made big signings like Tammy Abraham, Romelu Lukaku, Paulo Dybala, and Artem Dovbyk, and followed suit last summer at Everton with the loan deal for Jack Grealish. Thomas added that there is awareness of fan frustration from last season, making it plausible to see a late marquee signing, whether Grealish's return, a right-back addition, or someone else.

Christian Norgaard's Injury Not Serious

Regarding Christian Norgaard's knock, Thomas said it is not particularly serious. He noted that Norgaard passed a medical to join Everton, so the fitness staff were satisfied. The injury, combined with a limited pre-season, may delay his progress, but Thomas expects David Moyes to provide more details at his Friday press conference.

Jack Grealish Return Uncertain

On Jack Grealish's potential return, Thomas explained that Everton does not control the outcome. The club has tracked his return all summer, and both club and player would be open to a reunion. However, new City boss Enzo Maresca must first decide Grealish is surplus, which remains unclear after he was used in the Community Shield. With Tottenham in talks for Omar Marmoush and Savinho, City may keep Grealish until new options arrive. If Grealish gets the green light, City's priority is a cash sale, with loans considered only after that. Thomas said Everton may need to be patient and hope no big spenders intervene.

Under-21 Loan Moves Expected

Thomas anticipated loan moves for defenders Eli Campbell and Will Tamen, who have had previous loan spells. George Pickford should build on his Southport stint, allowing Doug Lukjanciks more U21s experience. George Finney, who played at Ayr United, needs senior football. Braiden Graham, who has excelled at U18s and U21s, needs a bigger challenge despite his youth, having played senior football at Linfield aged 15.

Right-Back Search Continues

On the right-back search, Thomas said Guela Doue would be the first choice for most, including some within the club, but is the most expensive. Angus Kinnear acknowledged the search has taken longer than desired, targeting the right player rather than the quickest. Thomas noted that if the solution ends up being a stop-gap, there will be frustration.
