Brit Quits UK for Australia, Doubles Salary and Beats Burnout
Brit Doubles Salary After Moving to Australia

A burnt-out British professional who cried every day at work has dramatically transformed her life by relocating to Australia, where she now earns double her previous salary. Wynter Yeomans, 26, moved to Sydney with her partner Luke Richards in February 2025, seeking a more balanced lifestyle after struggling with stress and mental health issues in the UK.

From Burnout to Bliss

Wynter, who previously worked in pharmaceutical marketing in Nottingham, described her return to the UK after travelling Southeast Asia in 2022 as a 'dark place.' She would cry daily and break out in rashes due to job stress. 'The first six months were a dark place. I really struggled to get back to reality,' she said. 'I landed a corporate job. I would cry every day at work and I was so stressed.'

Within three months of arriving in Sydney, she secured a marketing position that pays £48,000 ($90,500 AUD), compared to her previous £25,000 salary. 'I make so much more money. In the UK I was on £25,000 and here I'm on £48,000 for an entry position,' she said.

Quality of Life Improvements

Wynter no longer 'lives for the weekend,' instead enjoying outdoor activities after work. 'I finish work and I've got the whole evening — people go to the beach and have BBQs with friends,' she said. 'There's a lot less focus on the weekend. In the UK you live for the weekends.'

While she pays $1,500 AUD (£795) monthly rent, other expenses like coffee and food are cheaper. 'You can get coffee for £2. You have your happy hours and people eat out all the time,' she noted. 'I used to pay my mum £150 rent a month. Now I pay $1,500 in rent. I used to cry to my mum that I can't afford her rent and now I don't bat an eyelid.'

Advice for Others

Wynter encourages others considering a similar move to 'trust the process.' She said, 'It can be really scary picking up your whole life and moving. You can try it and if it doesn't work out you can go back home.' Her partner now works as a tree surgeon, and the couple enjoys a more outdoorsy lifestyle. 'Coming home after travelling really made me realise how much bigger the world is than your home town,' she added.
