Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign midfielder Ederson for a fee of £35 million, with a further £4 million possible in add-ons. The 26-year-old Brazilian is expected to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford, becoming Michael Carrick's first acquisition since taking over as manager.
Ederson, who has won three caps for Brazil, joined Atalanta in 2022 and has scored 16 goals in 180 appearances for the Serie A club, helping them win the Europa League in 2024. With only a year left on his contract, United secured him at a relatively low price.
The midfielder is the first part of a planned midfield overhaul, with Carrick aiming to make at least two signings in central areas. Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni remains a target, while Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson is also on the radar, though he is more likely to join Manchester City.
United had previously shown interest in Carlos Baleba, but the Cameroon international endured a difficult season with Brighton. Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton is also being monitored. Meanwhile, Casemiro's United career is over, with the Brazilian leaving on a free transfer after four years, and doubts persist over the futures of Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen, who departed in 2025 and was never replaced.
