Former Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark has completed a permanent transfer from Red Bull Salzburg to Derby County, triggering a sell-on clause that will net the Reds a six-figure sum.
Deal Details and Financial Impact
Clark, 21, moved to Salzburg in 2024 for an estimated £10 million after making 12 first-team appearances for Liverpool. The deal included a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause. Now, with Derby paying approximately £6 million for his permanent transfer, Liverpool stand to receive just over £1 million.
Derby County have not disclosed the exact fee, but the Mail reports it as around £6 million. Clark had been on loan at Derby last season, making 45 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists, earning him the club's Young Player of the Season award.
Player's Perspective
Speaking to Rams TV after signing a four-year contract, Clark said: "I think people could tell [that he wanted to stay at Derby], the way I enjoyed being here. When fans asked us to stay and stuff, obviously, I had to say 'we'll see', but I knew deep down that I wanted to come back."
He added: "I felt the vibe after coming in from not playing much (at Salzburg). The gaffer put full trust in me, got me up to speed and then I just got the minutes that I needed, I enjoyed everything about the club, the team, everyone working for the club, the fanbase - I thought it was the perfect destination for me."
Future Implications for Liverpool
Liverpool now have an additional £1 million to add to their transfer budget as new manager Andoni Iraola looks to reshape the squad ahead of next season. Clark had also attracted interest from Rangers and Wrexham but chose to stay with Derby after they narrowly missed the Championship play-offs.
