Burnley came from behind to ensure that Wolves, not the Clarets, would finish bottom of the Premier League as the two already-relegated sides played out a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.
Early Penalty for Wolves
This match was a battle for pride and an extra £2.6 million in merit payments. Rob Edwards' Wolves side took an early lead through Adam Armstrong's penalty in the fifth minute. Mateus Mane's misdirected corner was retrieved by Ladislav Krejci, and his header struck the outstretched arm of Florentino. Referee Andrew Kitchen pointed to the spot after a VAR review, and Armstrong sent Clarets goalkeeper Max Weiss the wrong way for his second Premier League goal since joining from Southampton in February.
Wolves Dominate First Half
Mane thought he had doubled Wolves' lead when his curling 25-yard shot beat Weiss but bounced back off a post. Lesley Ugochukwu gave the home fans something to cheer with a shot that was blocked by Santiago Bueno. Wolves continued to threaten; Yerson Mosquera's header was deflected over, and from Mane's corner, Krejci's knockdown fell to David Moller Wolfe, but his half-volley was kept out by Weiss' flailing hand. Jaidon Anthony forced Jose Sa into a save in first-half stoppage time with a snap volley from 20 yards. Sa also plunged to his left to divert Florentino's drive to safety.
Flemming Equaliser
Burnley drew level in the 48th minute when Zian Flemming swapped passes with Ugochukwu on the edge of the box and fired a crisp shot just inside Sa's right-hand post. It was the Dutchman's 11th Premier League goal of the season and his sixth in the last 11 appearances. Burnley went close when Florentino's floated cross struck the far post after drifting beyond Flemming's outstretched boot.
Late Drama and Saves
The visitors escaped just after the hour when Hannibal Mejbri's shot squirmed under Sa, but the Wolves keeper recovered to snatch the ball as it rolled towards the line. Sa also denied substitute James Ward-Prowse's cross to Lucas Pires, blocking the volley with his legs. Wolves almost snatched victory late on when Mane sent a 20-yard effort inches wide, before Sa saved with his legs again to keep out substitute Ashley Barnes' close-range effort.
