A new Channel 4 series, Escape to Florida, follows British families who have relocated to the Sunshine State. Among them is Dan, a Londoner who moved with his wife Donna and their two sons after inheriting a home from his uncle Billy, who had been Sting's long-term tour manager.
Billy, who had no children, left the family his waterfront property after passing away from cancer in 2019. Dan explained: 'He's done so much for us that we need to stay here and keep his house going. Miss him big time.' The family had visited every summer and cared for Billy in his final months.
However, the move has come with financial challenges. While Donna works as a beauty journalist, Dan has not been employed since relocating three and a half years ago. He is now studying for a career in real estate, admitting: 'I just need to realise that I'm not on holiday the whole time.'
The series also features Martin and Beverley, who have invested everything in opening a traditional British pub, and chef Anthony, who prepares a birthday meal while his wife updates him on her cancer treatment. Escape to Florida airs on Channel 4 from Monday, May 4 at 4pm.
