Beau Greaves has etched her name into the annals of darts history by becoming the first woman to secure a Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) ranking title. The 22-year-old achieved this remarkable feat at the Players Championship 11 in Milton Keynes, where she overcame three former world champions in succession.
Path to Victory
Greaves’s journey to the title was nothing short of extraordinary. She first edged past Rob Cross, the 2018 world champion, with a narrow 6-5 victory in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, she produced a stunning performance to dismantle two-time world champion Gary Anderson 7-1. The final saw her face Michael Smith, the 2023 world champion, in a tense encounter that ended with an 8-7 triumph, sealed by a breathtaking 142 checkout.
A Dream Come True
Speaking after her historic win, an emotional Greaves said: “I can’t believe it. I was up a fair few legs and I started to think about it. It caught up with me. I don’t know whether I thought about being the first woman to do one. I can’t believe I’ve hit that. I can’t believe I took out that. I’ve had a great year, but I never thought I’d win one of these. Never.”
Reflecting on her achievement, she added: “I am so happy I can’t even describe how I feel. To have won on the Development Tour, Challenge Tour, PDC Women’s Series, I am so proud of myself because I was struggling so bad at the start of the year, really bad. I can’t believe it. I know I’ve got the ability and the talent, but I’ve beaten Gary Anderson and I couldn’t believe it! Beating Michael. Beating players that I watched growing up. It’s amazing and I feel really proud of myself. Now I need to kick on and keep doing it.”
Impact on Darts
Greaves’s victory marks a significant milestone for women in darts, breaking barriers in a sport traditionally dominated by men. Her success is expected to inspire a new generation of female players and further the push for gender equality in professional darts.
