Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber is facing a race against time to be fit for the Champions League final, with the Dutchman's participation in the World Cup also in doubt. Timber has not played since March 14 due to a groin injury, raising fears he may not feature again this season.
Injury Woes Mount for Gunners
The 24-year-old right-back is a major concern for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is already dealing with a suspected knee ligament injury to Ben White. White limped off during Sunday's match against West Ham, leaving the Gunners desperately short of options at right back.
Arsenal have two Premier League games remaining—against Burnley and Crystal Palace—before the Champions League final on May 30. Timber is hoping to resume training this week in a bid to prove his fitness, but previous attempts have failed.
World Cup Ambitions at Stake
Timber's absence would also be a significant blow for the Netherlands national team ahead of the World Cup in North America. The defender is keen to avoid surgery, which would rule him out of the tournament entirely.
Arteta has admitted that both Timber and Mikel Merino, who underwent foot surgery four months ago, face a battle to be ready for the final and the World Cup. Merino has not given up hope of returning but must step up his rehabilitation.
Arsenal face Paris Saint-Germain in the final, with the threat of Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia looming large. Timber's absence has been keenly felt, as he has been one of the standout full-backs in the Premier League this season.
The Gunners also suffered a setback at West Ham when Riccardo Calafiori went off at half-time with an injury. With options dwindling, Arteta will be hoping for positive news on Timber and White in the coming days.
