Millions on DWP Benefits to Receive £299 Cost of Living Payment in February 2024 - Full Details
£299 DWP Cost of Living Payment Dates Confirmed

Millions of households across the UK are set to receive a crucial financial boost next month, as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirms the rollout of the final £299 Cost of Living Payment.

The payment will be automatically sent to the bank accounts of over eight million eligible families between Tuesday 6th February and Thursday 22nd February 2024. This marks the third and final instalment of a support package designed to help vulnerable Brits navigate the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Who is eligible for the £299 payment?

You qualify for this payment if you were entitled to a payment for one of the following means-tested benefits between 13th November and 12th December 2023:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit

For those receiving Tax Credits and no other low-income benefits, the payment will be made by HMRC shortly after the DWP payments, to avoid duplicate payments.

What you need to do

The best part? The payment is automatic. If you are eligible, you do not need to apply or contact the DWP. The £299 will be paid into the same account you normally receive your benefits, with a specific reference: ‘DWP COL’ followed by your National Insurance number.

It is vital to be aware of scammers during this period. The DWP will never ask you for your personal details via text message or email to receive this payment.

A vital lifeline for struggling families

This final payment concludes a total support package of £900 for eligible households on means-tested benefits in 2023/24. Previous payments of £301 and £300 were made in Spring and Autumn 2023.

Mel Stride, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, stated: “We are committed to protecting the most vulnerable and these payments are a significant part of that support. The final Cost of Living payment this February will provide millions more households with a vital financial cushion.”

For those who may not qualify for this payment but are struggling, it is recommended to check your eligibility for other benefits via the government’s online calculators or through local advice services like Citizens Advice.
