$250K Prize Honors Those Who Bring American History to Life

The New York Historical has unveiled a new $250,000 prize aimed at recognizing individuals who bring American history to life for the public. Named the David M. Rubenstein Prize for the Advancement of American History, the award is endowed by philanthropist, financier, and Baltimore Orioles owner David M. Rubenstein.

Prize Details

The prize will be awarded annually to those who have made significant contributions to the public's understanding of the past. While historians are eligible, the award is also open to teachers, filmmakers, podcasters, and leaders of cultural organizations.

"The Rubenstein Prize will pay tribute to those who strive to tell an accurate and engaging national story, helping Americans understand who came before them and fostering a deeper appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship," Rubenstein said in a statement. "By studying history, we are better able to see what worked and how to avoid the mistakes of the past."
