Van Der Valk season four airs on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday, August 2 at 8pm, bringing the Amsterdam-set detective drama back after a three-year absence. Based on Nicholas Freeling's novels, the new run follows Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk as he investigates murder cases around the city, and introduces a new face to the team.
Returning detectives Marc Warren and Maimie McCoy
Marc Warren reprises the role of the cynical and street-smart Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk. Warren is known for playing Albert Blithe in Band of Brothers, Dougie Raymond in The Vice, Danny Blue in Hustle and Rick in Mad Dogs. More recently he appeared in Netflix's Harlan Coben drama Missing You and the sitcom Big Boys.
Maimie McCoy is back as Inspector Lucienne Hassell, Van Der Valk's trusted confidant and right-hand woman, described as "calm, centred down-to-earth". McCoy previously played Milady de Winter in The Musketeers, and her other credits include A Confession, London Kills, DCI Banks, The Libertine and The Couple Next Door.
New arrival Kim Riedle and Hendrik Davie
German actress Kim Riedle joins the cast as Sergeant Kalie Tenkers, Van Der Valk's ex-girlfriend who is "confident, provocative" and enjoys pushing boundaries. Riedle has appeared in Back for Good, Tatort, The Fox and Dear Child, and is best remembered in Germany for the romantic drama Verbotene Liebe.
Darrell D'Silva plays quirky, hard-drinking forensic pathologist Hendrik Davie, who in season four is forced to confront his own mortality after facing a frightening medical self-diagnosis. D'Silva has featured in Domina, Informer and Out of the Blue, as well as films including The Wise Guy, Cold Storage, A Million Days and In The Grey.
Emma Fielding leads the team
Emma Fielding plays Chief Commissaris Julia Dahlman, the team's leader who is politically smart and fiercely loyal to her squad. Fielding's TV credits include CB Strike, Sanditon, BBC's Les Miserables and Unforgotten season three as Amy Hollis.
