Tottenham Hotspur have unveiled their new home and away kits for the 2026-27 season, with club captain Cristian Romero notably absent from the promotional campaign.
New Era for Spurs
The Nike designs are being marketed as 'the start of a new era built on reconnection with fans, the local community and heritage.' The launch features men's players Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Mathys Tel, Archie Gray, Conor Gallagher, Destiny Udogie, and Dominic Solanke alongside young fans. Women's players Olivia Holdt, Cathinka Tandberg, Toko Koga, and Signe Gaupset also appear.
Romero, the men's club captain, is not included. Bethany England, the women's club captain, has already announced her departure this summer and is also absent.
Future Captaincy Hints
Archie Gray, often tipped as a future Spurs captain, is front and centre of the home kit unveil. James Maddison, a possible immediate successor if Romero leaves, fronts the away kit launch.
Romero's Expected Exit
Romero is widely expected to leave the club this summer, despite being made captain and signing a new contract 10 months ago. Atletico Madrid are pursuing the centre-back, and the Spanish giants are expected to compete for his signature again. However, Romero's involvement with Argentina at the World Cup may delay any exit. Manchester United have also been linked, though reports downplayed their interest.
Romero has been a vocal critic of the club hierarchy during two years of underachievement, with Spurs finishing 17th in consecutive Premier League seasons. The World Cup winner almost missed the final-day relegation decider, reportedly prioritising the Argentine Championship final between his boyhood club Belgrano and River Plate. He was at the stadium as Spurs beat Everton to avoid relegation by two points.
Defensive Reinforcements
Tottenham have already signed three defenders, including two centre-backs. Marcos Senesi arrived on a free transfer from Bournemouth, and Jan Paul van Hecke's £52 million move from Brighton was confirmed. They will compete with Kevin Danso and teenager Luka Vuskovic alongside Van de Ven. Radu Dragusin is expected to be available for transfer, and this kit release suggests Romero's time at Spurs is nearing an end.
