Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has revealed he was stabbed, robbed, and strip-searched during a horrific holiday in Madrid. The ordeal unfolded after a night out, and the situation worsened when he faced suspicion from authorities on his return.
Nightmare in Madrid
Speaking on the Judgemental podcast with fellow BBC star Anton Du Beke, Craig recalled the terrifying experience. He explained that what was meant to be a relaxing break turned into a nightmare when he was attacked while walking home from a nightclub at around two in the morning.
Craig described the incident: "I went on holiday in Madrid and got stabbed, that was nice, and it was stinking hot." He added that his jewellery was stolen, with his necklace ripped from his neck, leaving a burn mark. He was slashed in the stomach with a razor blade.
Strip-Search on Return
Things took a further turn for the worse when he attempted to return home. Because he was injured and unshaven, French officials became suspicious and subjected him to a full strip search. Craig recalled: "I hadn’t shaved, so I did look a bit of a wreck, I’d been stabbed, I had burn marks all around my neck… And then the French strip searched me down to literally nothing… they were looking for drugs."
Another Holiday Disaster
The Madrid trip wasn't Craig's only travel misfortune. He also recalled a trip to Mombasa, Kenya, where he discovered upon arrival that his pre-booked hotel had burnt down. Despite the setback, he was accommodated elsewhere and enjoyed a cruise on the River Nile, but the holiday ended poorly when several in his party contracted salmonella from "off chicken" before flying home.
