Cristiano Ronaldo couldn't contain his laughter when two journalists jokingly asked for a pay rise and one of his supercars as a company vehicle, following his acquisition of a stake in streaming enterprise LiveModeTV Portugal. The Portuguese star secured a significant share in the media company, which has broadcast matches from the 2026 World Cup free of charge.
Ronaldo's New Role as Media Partner
"We're proud to announce that Cristiano Ronaldo is the newest partner of LiveModeTV," the broadcaster said in a Facebook post. "Together, we're bringing live football to YouTube in a new way, with fans at the centre of everything."
In a statement to Bloomberg, Ronaldo said sport 'can change lives' and that the partnership aimed to 'enrich the ecosystem, broadening the reach and engagement of top competitions through YouTube broadcasts and content distributed across all social media platforms for everyone.'
LiveModeTV and CazeTV Connection
The media company is best known for its affiliation with streamer Casemiro Miguel and his CazeTV broadcasting enterprise. CazeTV launched in 2022 and has since covered major football events, including that year's World Cup, the 2023 Women's World Cup, and the revamped FIFA Club World Cup.
Playful Exchange After Portugal's Win
Speaking to Ronaldo after Portugal's 5-0 win over Uzbekistan on Tuesday — a game in which the Al Nassr star scored twice — a journalist said: "We have two questions for you here. You're now a shareholder in LiveMode, so technically you're our boss. First, you're the greatest 'boss' in the world. And second, we wanted to ask when we can negotiate a raise here."
Another added: "On my part, I don't want a raise. I wanted to ask if, as our relationship evolves, I could get a company car. It can be any one of yours." Ronaldo replied: "Sense of humour, I like it. Today is a good day for having a sense of humour. The last game it wasn't."
Ronaldo's Diverse Investment Portfolio
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has diversified his portfolio in recent years, investing in artificial intelligence firm Perplexity, the hotel group Grupo Pestana, Insparya hair-transplant clinics, and HBL Pro2col Software LLC, a subsidiary of Herbalife. He also holds an investment in the Spanish club UD Almeria.
Portugal's World Cup Standings
As for Portugal, they must beat Colombia in their final group game this weekend to secure top spot. Just two points separate the sides heading into the match, with Colombia having beaten DR Congo and Uzbekistan along the way.
