Critical and Audience Acclaim

Viewers have heaped praise on the film via Rotten Tomatoes. One enthusiastic reviewer wrote: 'Pure action chaos in the best way. The pacing barely slows down, the machine combat is intense, and Alan Ritchson absolutely fits this kind of role perfectly.' A five-star review stated: 'Combine Predator and War of the Worlds, and you will get this amazing movie! The story was incredibly gripping and intense, and the war machine itself was very threatening and looked awesome.'

A third viewer remarked: 'Fantastic action movie with enough suspense, some cheese ball options, but overall really liked it!' Another declared: 'An incredible action movie and a perfect flick for Alan Ritchson's charisma. Don't go looking for any character depth here. It is straight adrenaline ... like Predator on steroids.'

Plot and Sequel Details

War Machine follows a cohort of recruits navigating the final phases of US Army Ranger Selection. When their training exercise goes catastrophically wrong, they find themselves in a desperate battle for survival. Netflix has confirmed that the sequel will feature the return of leading man Alan Ritchson alongside director Patrick Hughes. Hughes, known for The Hitman's Bodyguard and its sequel, will co-write the screenplay with James Beaufort.

According to Variety, the storyline for the sequel remains under wraps, though the original film concluded with considerable ambiguity. The first installment saw the alien mechanical entity vanquished after 81 lured it into a quarry trap. However, a news bulletin hints at an impending extraterrestrial invasion, revealing that numerous pods — resembling the one housing the lethal robot — have been discovered worldwide, indicating a multitude of additional alien automatons await confrontation. The broadcast also warned that thousands more pods were en route to Earth, necessitating a coordinated global defense initiative.

War Machine is currently streaming on Netflix.
