M&S new £3 dark chocolate mint bar divides shoppers

Marks & Spencer has added a new chocolate bar to its confectionery range, sparking divided opinions among shoppers. The retailer announced the release of Collection Single Origin Dark Chocolate with Mint, describing it as 'the most luxuriously creamy, minty bar you could treat yourself to.'

The bar is made from 85% Peruvian dark chocolate and includes a drop or two of Indian mint oil. Priced at £3, each 100g bar is available in stores and on Ocado.

Reactions on social media

On Instagram, some users expressed enthusiasm. Kiran.k.kang wrote, 'Oh em gee! I need this,' while derek_sadorra called it a 'new must try.' Others who had already tasted it shared positive feedback. Neverornow_podcast said they now 'can't be without it,' and Facebook user Jo Connie Woodward commented, 'I can confirm it's absolutely delicious. What a triumph, thank you M&S.'

Some shoppers praised the bar's vegan-friendly credentials and its cocoa-to-sugar ratio, noting it could be suitable for people with diabetes or lactose intolerance.

Not everyone convinced

However, the new flavour did not appeal to all. Instagram user elle_em_3 commented, 'Dark chocolate haters assemble.' On Facebook, Lily B-Chapman asked, 'Why always dark chocolate and not milk chocolate?' Even a self-described fan of dark mint chocolate, Sarah Cottenden, said, 'Sadly I found it too dark and it left a dry after taste.'

Supermarket chocolate taste test

The launch comes after Metro published results of a milk chocolate taste test comparing supermarket own-brand bars against Cadbury Dairy Milk. In the blind test, Cadbury scored highly on taste and appearance but not value for money, with compliments for its 'nostalgic' and 'creamy' taste. M&S's offering was described as 'nice' but 'a little underwhelming' for the price, while budget options from Aldi and Lidl outperformed more expensive choices from Waitrose.
