Clarkson's Farm star Lisa Hogan has shared a fresh account of the plane crash that left her fearing she'd be "killed instantly". The Irish model and entrepreneur, now 51, was just 25 years old when the private jet she was travelling in collided with a van after skidding off the runway at RAF Northolt in west London.
Crash details
The Spanish Learjet 25, which had been inbound from Spain for a film shoot, was torn in two upon impact. Remarkably, all those on board, including Hogan, walked away without sustaining serious injuries.
In a previous Instagram post, Lisa shared a photograph of the wreckage, writing: "Amazingly the pilots, van drivers and I survived. I took another flight the same day. And landed safely."
Seat change refusal
Speaking to the Irish Independent several months after the 1996 incident, Hogan disclosed that shortly before take-off the pilot had requested she change seats, a request she flatly refused.
"I insisted on sitting where I was, which was just as well because that was the area where the van came through when we crashed and I would have been killed instantly," she said.
New interview details
Now, in an interview with Lucas Stewart, the farmer shared more details of the day. "It crashed onto the motorway, onto the A40."
"I remember looking at the lights flashing, thinking 'why aren't they doing a U-turn in this field?' And they were just going way too low, way too fast."
"So, I remember thinking 'oh, wow, ok. I'm off to join my dad.' And then, all the crashing happened and I was thinking 'ok, I'll be decapitated'. So I was in the fetal position and quite relaxed."
"Then we stopped, and I was furious! A truck had come through the middle of us and the nose [of the plane] had snapped off."
Jeremy Clarkson's account
Her partner, Jeremy Clarkson, revealed in his Sunday Times column last year that both he and Ms Hogan had been involved in three separate crashes between them.
He wrote: "Whenever Lisa and I board an aeroplane, we are usually pretty confident that it will land safely because between us, we’ve walked away from three crashes over the years.
"Both mine involved broken landing gear and were fairly minor but hers was a proper shunt. She was the only passenger in a Learjet that careered off the end of the runway at Northolt and on to the A40, where it was hit so hard by a van that it split in two.
"It’s amazing no one was killed and if you google the images, you’ll see what I mean. But whatever, the upshot is that the law of averages suggests we are unlikely to be involved in any such thing again, which is why we can both enjoy the champagne and the food, and settle smoothly into a state of deep relaxation."
