Troon, a seaside town in Scotland, has impressed a visitor with its quiet beach and exceptional fish and chips from The Wee Hurrie, an award-winning chippy on the harbour.
A peaceful evening stroll
After a thunderstorm ended Scotland's heatwave, the sun reappeared for an evening stroll along the shoreline. The beach was peaceful, with only a few people walking on the sand, unlike a previous visit in January when it was bitterly cold and snowy.
The walk was short as the main aim was to eat at The Wee Hurrie, which had been closed during the earlier trip due to the Scottish fishing fleet being docked.
Exceptional seafood
The Wee Hurrie's freshly caught seafood lived up to its stellar reputation. The scampi was exceptionally fresh, coated in a delicate batter that left no bloated feeling. The menu includes fritto misto, noodles, and lobster.
The scampi came with tartare sauce, lemon, salt, and vinegar. It was light, crispy, filling, and satisfying, with decent portion sizes. At £14.30, it was excellent value for money.
Takeaway experience
The chippy operates purely as a takeaway with no seating. Customers queued to collect orders, and the visitor ate standing outside the shack, which speaks to the food's quality.
After eating, a stroll down the high street revealed independent shops and cafés closed by 7pm, but pubs were busy. The visitor would have liked to try Lido for cocktails but was driving.
Troon is a superb location worth exploring, whether nearby or travelling from further afield.
