British gamers ordering Grand Theft Auto 6 are paying up to three times as much as fans from other countries, according to an exclusive analysis by the Express. The data reveals that the UK has among the highest prices for Rockstar Games' blockbuster worldwide, with the Standard Edition costing £69.99 and the Ultimate Edition £89.99.

True Cost of GTA 6 Across the Globe

When local prices across 20 key markets are converted into GBP, the UK ranks as the third most expensive place to purchase the Ultimate Edition and fourth for the Standard Edition. The cheapest market is South Africa, where the Standard Edition costs just £22.94 and the Ultimate Edition £41.33. South Korea and Japan also offer significantly lower prices, with the Standard Edition at £44.12 and £45.88 respectively.

Rockstar announced pricing on June 24, confirming $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. However, exchange rates are not applied evenly, leading to stark regional differences.

UK Tax Exposed: VAT Argument Falls Flat

Some argue the price gap is due to the UK's 20% VAT, but the maths shows otherwise. Even in the most expensive US states with a 10.5% sales tax, the Standard Edition totals $88.39 (roughly £66.93) — still cheaper than the UK's £69.99. Hong Kong (£54.85) and New Zealand (£59.90) also undercut the UK price.

"Given that there is no physical disc in the box for GTA 6 as yet, British gamers have every right to feel aggrieved — there is, after all, little to no physical manufacturing or distribution overhead tied to a digital download code," the Express notes.

While UK gamers pay 2.7% of their average monthly net income (£2,626) for the Standard Edition, players in Argentina forfeit 25.2% of their average salary, and Brazilians 16%. South Africans (2.0%) and South Koreans (2.2%) fare better, while US gamers spend just 1.7% of their income.

Some regions face additional barriers: Taiwan, Malaysia, and Ukraine are currently blocked from pre-ordering due to content rating, censorship, or store infrastructure issues.
