White House adviser Andrew Giuliani has declared his support for England to win the 2026 World Cup, calling it a 'beautiful victory' for the Three Lions if they lift the trophy on America's 250th birthday.
Giuliani's World Cup Hopes
Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026, told the Daily Mail that with the United States eliminated, he is backing England. 'If the United States can't win on our 250th birthday, then a great storyline would be the English coming to America and winning during our anniversary celebrations,' he said.
Giuliani acknowledged England's 60-year trophy drought but expressed confidence in their squad. 'It's been 60 years of hurt, I gather, for England, so that would be a beautiful victory for them if they won the tournament. I do absolutely think England can go all the way, they are one of the top teams left now.'
England's Road to the Final
Thomas Tuchel's side must defeat Argentina in the semi-final to reach the final, where either France or Spain awaits. Jude Bellingham guided England into the semi-finals with a tense victory over Norway.
Giuliani credited Harry Kane and Bellingham as key players. 'Harry Kane is the number one goal scorer for the England team, and if they are going to win the tournament, he will be the main reason. He is one of the main players on the team, and he and Jude Bellingham are fine athletes.'
President Trump's Favourite Player
Harry Kane is a firm favourite of US President Donald Trump, who is set to be involved in the trophy lift on Sunday. Trump described the Bayern Munich striker as a 'great player' and a 'great guy' on social media.
Kane played golf with Trump in Florida in 2024. 'I played all right to be honest, but 18 months ago he invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. So, when the president invites you somewhere, it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him,' Kane said. 'His golf is pretty good to be honest with you. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I'm his age, that's for sure. A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play.'
White House Task Force Role
As head of the White House's World Cup task force, Giuliani is responsible for coordinating US preparations for the tournament. With the US out, he has shifted his allegiance to England, urging Tuchel to instil belief in his squad. 'England strike me as being an exceedingly well-balanced team you have to be confident and what the coach has to drill into them is that they have the potential to win,' Giuliani said.
