Coronation Street viewers are fearing the worst for Cassie Plummer after Ross locked her in his car and drove off to an unknown location in Monday's episode (August 3). Cassie had been trying to leave Weatherfield when Ross offered her a lift, confessed to poisoning Tracy Barlow, and then trapped her inside the vehicle.
Who is Cassie and what happened?
Cassie first arrived on the cobbles in 2023 as Tyrone Dobbs' long-estranged mother, played by Alan Halsall. Her arrival caused trouble from the start. Last month, Tyrone's father Ross, played by Ian Burfield, turned up unexpectedly, leaving Cassie visibly shaken. It soon emerged that Ross had paid Cassie for sex when she was just 15 years old, and she fell pregnant with Tyrone as a result.
Despite Cassie's obvious distress, Tyrone was eager to bond with his father, and Ross was swiftly embraced by the family. He also began a romance with Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Barlow.
Ross's threat and the poisoning plan
In scenes aired last week, Cassie disclosed the truth about Ross to her family. They were devastated but ultimately decided to keep him in their lives after his apology. However, following the confrontation, Ross threatened to kill Cassie should she ever meddle in his life again.
In a desperate attempt to rid herself of Ross, Cassie tried to spike his drink with painkillers so he would fail a drugs test for a new job and be forced to leave Weatherfield permanently. The scheme spectacularly unravelled when Ross uncovered what Cassie had done and, in a vicious twist, slipped the doctored drink to Tracy instead. Tracy was subsequently rushed to hospital, sending her family into a state of panic.
Sadly for Cassie, everyone misread the situation and jumped to the conclusion that she was responsible for poisoning Tracy. Despite her pleas of innocence, Cassie's family abandoned her, leaving her utterly devastated.
Monday's episode and fans' reaction
In Monday's episode, Cassie made the decision to leave Weatherfield and bid her farewells, taking with her a photograph of Tyrone and his children along with a bag of belongings. Before she could depart, Ross offered her a lift in his car and subsequently confessed that it was he who had poisoned Tracy. He then locked Cassie inside the car and drove off to an undisclosed location.
Later, Ross returned to Tyrone's house claiming he hadn't realised Cassie had gone. It was then discovered that he had the photograph of Tyrone and the children.
Fans are now fearing the worst following Cassie's mysterious disappearance. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer wrote: "Omg what has Ross done to Cassie? !" Another added: "Think he's killed her but I hope not because I can't take another murder investigation." A third chimed in: "Keeping her captive probably." Another penned: "Got her locked up somewhere." A fifth wrote: "Ross having the photo doesn't make me feel very well about Cassie's fate."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
