Emmerdale fans are waiting for official word on a series of reported cast changes, with four exits rumoured and at least two returns on the way or teased. Neither the ITV soap nor the actors involved have commented on most of the departure claims.
Who is leaving Emmerdale?
Reports have said Dawn Taylor is being written out after eight years, with actress Olivia Bromley said to have been written out of the show. The soap has not confirmed this. Dawn is currently centre stage, with possible feelings for her ex Billy Fletcher ahead of her wedding to Joe Tate. She is pregnant with Joe's baby, and fans think she might flee Joe and the village like she had planned to months earlier.
A shocking exit rumour is that Jimmy King will leave after more than 20 years. It has been reported that actor Nick Miles has been axed from the show after two decades. Fans have been left furious by the reports, which have not been backed up by the show. It is claimed Jimmy will be killed off in devastating scenes later this year, while onscreen at the moment it is teased he might split from his wife Nicola King.
More exits rumoured
Another unexpected exit claim is that Vinny Dingle is leaving after seven years, with actor Bradley Johnson said to be axed. This has not been confirmed. Vinny recently embarked on a romance with Lewis Barton, after a storyline months earlier saw him struggling with his sexuality. The news has left fans baffled.
Fans were also stunned by reports that Noah Dingle will leave after 22 years. Jack Downham has played him since 2009. Writers are said to have axed Charity Dingle's son, and onscreen Noah has told some family members he plans to work abroad. Again, this exit has not been confirmed by the show or cast, but it is thought Noah will leave soon.
Which returns are confirmed or teased?
The big return coming up is Sadie King, who will arrive back in the village soon for the first time in 20 years. Patsy Kensit is reprising the role, and the Mirror recently caught up with her. Sadie left in dramatic fashion in 2006, and the return is set to bring trouble, secrets and plenty of drama.
Victoria Sugden is heading back to the show at some point, after fleeing earlier this year. Actress Isabel Hodgins is on maternity leave after welcoming her first child this year. Isabel was recently spotted on set, sparking return claims. She has previously said she would like to return around September, but is not completely sure when she will be ready, although she definitely plans to go back.
Weeks ago, soap boss Laura Shaw teased that a Tate was heading to the show, without specifying whether it would be a brand new character or a past Tate. There is still no news on this, but the Mirror has said it will be dropping new hints very soon. Fans have speculated whether it could be a new character like Serena Sugden, or whether Jamie Tate might return, amid Serena targeting Kim Tate.
Are there any new characters joining?
There has been no news about new characters joining soon. That said, there is not always an announcement, although there were announcements for the likes of Kev Townsend and Serena Sugden. Recently, Kev's pal Steve, played by Jason Done, joined temporarily, along with Kev's old flame Kylie and other guest roles. New faces are expected to keep coming, but whether an actual new character joins remains to be seen. If the Tate arrival is a new Tate, that will be a new character.
