Coronation Street fans have praised Carla Connor-Swain's latest scenes in the ongoing health storyline for Betsy Swain, with Roy Cropper also joining the emotional storyline. The major new storyline began earlier this month after Betsy was found collapsed on the kitchen floor of No.6 Coronation Street by Ryan Connor, before being rushed to the hospital, where she was left fighting for her life.
Her mums, Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain, rushed to be with her, and were shocked when doctors later confirmed that the teenager had suffered a stroke at just 18 years old. There was then further concern as, once her condition appeared to stabilise, Betsy suffered a second stroke.
Stroke Cause Revealed
After this, doctors confirmed it had been caused by a blood clot, which was the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation. Doctors spoke to Betsy about the cause, which is when the teen had to explain to her mum that her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson, had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
Away from the stresses of where her relationship with Dylan stands now, and the pressure she faced to give a statement to the police, Betsy's recovery is underway, and viewers will witness Betsy’s challenging recovery as she transitions from hospital to home and navigates significant life changes.
Roy Cropper Helps with Speech
During Thursday's (July 30) episode of Corrie, Roy was seen visiting Betsy in the hospital and tried to help her with her language skills, showing her cards boasting different pictures, for her to tell him what they were, such as a cat and a mug. As Betsy struggled, Roy almost dropped himself in it when he shared that Betsy's road to recovery would be a rocky one, before daggers from Carla made him, before the cafe owner added: "Although, to my mind, I'm quite sure that you'll get there!" But Betsy ended up spotting a picture of a coat, which she called "ugly", that caused Carla to giggle and agree, with it looking not to dissimilar to Roy's iconic outerwear.
Later, Carla was heard telling Betsy that, according to the doctor, it’s good news and she’ll be discharged tomorrow. Carla was quick to show the emotional teen her support, admitting she felt nervous at the thought of going home.
Fan Reactions
And it didn't take long for the comments to come flooding in about the episode, with many emotional over Carla's relationship with Betsy, and others happy to see Roy being part of the storyline. @youngemz99 said: "'Sweetheart, I promise you… it’s going to be absolutely fine. Trust me.' I love their relationship so much. Just a mother and daughter. Carla is always so soft and calm with her. That’s her daughter right there! #Corrie #Swarla." @missmollybruton wrote: "There's something really beautiful about the way Carla combats every one of Betsy's worries but never dismisses how she's feeling. The little nod when Carla says 'trust me'...Betsy's true other mum."
@Izzy1728047 shared: "It was nice to have a Betsy & Carla one to one scene today. Just them navigating this new normal together. Betsy is clearly scared, but Carla has been scared so much in her life that it was fitting for her to be the one to reassure Betsy of her fears. Beautiful scene #Swarla." @Swain__Connor posted: "There was never any doubt Carla would step up for Betsy, but getting to see it play out on screen, after everything they've been through together, it's such a beautiful relationship they have."
@Audz32129841 typed: "I love how they've included Roy in Betsy's stroke story and Hayley would be so proud of his family , their bond will only grow stronger #Corrie." @TheConnorSwains simply posted: "Grandad Roy #Swarla #Corrie." @MargheritAxen added: "I love also they put Roy inside this storyline. He is the grandfather, the wise man who saved this family. I need more scenes like that in n6 with Betsy’s humor on Roy’s clothes #Swarla #Corrie."
