Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) is feared murdered after Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) trapped her in his car in disturbing scenes.
Cassie's desperate attempt to expose Ross
Last week, Cassie tried to get rid of Ross by spiking his drink with some of Tyrone Dobbs' (Alan Halsall) painkillers. After Ross arrived in Weatherfield, Cassie struggled to watch her loved ones embrace him.
She eventually told Tyrone that Ross raped her when she was 15, leaving her pregnant. Tyrone confronted his father, but Ross convinced him he had changed, and Tyrone gave him another chance.
The poisoned smoothie
When Cassie learned Ross needed to take a drugs test for a new job at a local prison, she crushed Tyrone's medication into a drink Ross planned to take to work. Ross worked out what she had done and avoided drinking it.
Instead, he manipulated love interest Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) into drinking the spiked smoothie, sending her to hospital. Tracy accused Cassie of poisoning her, and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) later found a pill packet among Cassie's belongings that seemed to confirm the accusation.
Cassie insisted Ross had planted the evidence, but nobody believed her. Exhausted by her claims, her family decided to wash their hands of her.
The final confrontation
Isolated, Cassie prepared to leave Weatherfield for a new job. After an emotional farewell, she went to meet Steve, but Ross intercepted her and offered a lift to the train station.
Away from the cobbles, Ross admitted he had poisoned Tracy to frame Cassie. When she threatened to tell the police about the rape, Ross snapped and refused to let her out of the car. It was the last time viewers saw the character.
Ross returns alone
Hours later, Ross returned to Tyrone's house, offering to help with childcare now Cassie had gone, and took Tracy back home. As he left, he was seen holding a family picture belonging to Cassie.
Only Ross knows what happened after Cassie got into the car. Everyone else believes she has started a new life elsewhere, but viewers have been left with the chilling possibility that Ross murdered her.
