Filming for the BBC comedy crime drama Beyond Paradise has officially kicked off, sparking a major reaction from fans on social media. The spin-off of Death In Paradise follows detective Humphrey Goodman, played by Kris Marshall, as he joins a local police force in the fictional Devon town of Shipton Abbott.

This week, the show's Instagram account posted a new photo showing a Beyond Paradise film slate on a sunlit beach, marking the first day of shooting for series 5. The caption read: "Anyone spotted a sleuth by the sea? The Shipton Abbott squad are back on the beat! Filming has begun this week on the latest series of #BeyondParadise. Sunny shores, secrets to solve and scones to scoff - everything you could possibly want on another adventure to Devon and Cornwall. Beyond Paradise will be back on BBC iPlayer and BBC One soon."

Kris Marshall's appeal
Zahra Ahmadi said at MCM Comic Con that the major difference that sets Beyond Paradise apart from crime shows like Miss Marple and Midsomer Murders is having Kris Marshall as the detective. She said: "This is cosy crime, it's a feel-good watch. It deals with emotions and issues, and community policing, which I think is a great form of policing. I think Kris is my favourite number one to work with, and I think that really comes through on the screen."
Series 4 themes
The fourth series, available to watch on iPlayer, focuses on myths and legends. Ahmadi shared a personal connection to those themes, saying: "My granddad passed away a few years ago, and I've always been quite scared of ghosts. But I was desperate for them to be a real thing because I would have absolutely loved to have another encounter with him, and I still sometimes do. I think I have always really believed in them, but also now I'm at a point in my life where I'm less scared. I'm like, OK, then let's get these people that I've loved and lost, let's have a little chat. You can haunt me, that's fine."
