The Rapture has begun on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, bringing a star-studded cast to the psychological thriller filmed entirely in Wales. Adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel, the five-part series centres on a teenager accused of killing her mother who claims she can predict disasters.
The drama has been described as high-stakes, exploring climate change, corruption, spiritual yearning, and deep bonds formed in crisis. The story follows Dr Gabrielle Fox (Ruth Madeley) and her patient Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio).
Main Cast
Ruth Madeley plays Dr Gabrielle Fox, a clinical psychologist for adolescents she describes as “very strong and quite stubborn.” Madeley is known for Years and Years, Doctor Who, and its spin-off The War Between the Land and the Sea.
India Amarteifio plays Bethany Krall, 17, accused of killing her mother and claiming the ability to predict disasters. “In her youthfulness and naivety, she sees the world as binary,” Amarteifio said. She is best known for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Sam Hazeldine plays Leonard Krall, Bethany’s father and a faith leader. “Leonard was a vicar in a church in Cardiff, but he has now started his own National movement,” Hazeldine said. His credits include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Peaky Blinders.
Jack Farthing plays geologist Frasier Melville. Farthing described his character as moving from London to South Wales to work on a wind farm. He is known for Poldark and Spencer.
Iwan Rheon plays journalist Dick Carwin, a “washed-up” reporter who lost everything investigating the Faith Way. Rheon is known for Game of Thrones and Misfits.

The cast also includes Stephen Campbell Moore (The History Boys), Lisa Palfrey (Sex Education), Siena Kelly (Black Mirror), Naby Dakhli (House of David), Richard Elis (The Pact), Dean Rehman (The Kite Runner), Robert Rhodes (28 Years Later), and Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey).
