Avora, an immersive theatre experience in London, offers a sci-fi adventure that channels the feel of Star Trek and The Expanse. Located in a graffiti-covered warehouse behind Shoreditch High Street, it is created by the team behind Alcotraz and Hexmoor.
The experience begins
Visitors start at Roscorp Laboratories, where they stow belongings and receive an introduction from Mason, the security chief. After putting on a quilted Avora jumpsuit, guests are handed metal flasks of Luminol—a cocktail—and pass through a portal into a bioluminescent forest with exotic flora and distant creature sounds.
Story and actors
The story centers on Dr. Shelly, who is studying life on the planet, and the missing team member Conway. Guests are encouraged to ask questions about his disappearance. A native figure called 'Mother' offers to help restore Earth from climate change but may hide secrets. Actors engage with guests, allowing deeper exploration of the lore, though the included cocktails can make fact-finding more challenging.
Cocktails and changes
Three cocktails are included in the ticket price; a VIP 'doctorate' level adds a special extra from Mason. The drinks are pre-prepared now, whereas previously attendees could mix their own color-changing concoctions and forage for garnishes. The final cocktail is lit up and contains berry-flavored boba balls.
Overall impression
While lacking puzzles like lockboxes, the experience is entertaining with a satisfying plot, gorgeous sets, and standout acting. According to a review by Jess Phillips, it is perfect for sci-fi fans and leaves a pleasant buzzed feeling.
