Prime Minister Andy Burnham is reportedly set to receive an invitation to the London premiere of Oasis' upcoming Disney+ film, Don't Look Back In Anger, scheduled for next month at Leicester Square.
A VIP guest for the Gallaghers
Burnham, a well-known devotee of the Manchester band, has frequently expressed his admiration for the Britpop era on social media. He was even granted permission by Oasis to use their track "Some Might Say" during his campaign for the Makerfield by-election, which contributed to his return as an MP.
According to a source, "Burnham is a big fan of Oasis, and attending the premiere would be the icing on the cake of his year." The source added, "He loved it when Noel and Liam reunited and took over Manchester for the record-breaking Live '25 gigs last year. Burnham has also been speaking about his Britpop music taste on TikTok and this would be the perfect opportunity for social media content."
Burnham's connection to the band
At the time of Oasis' historic return and five sold-out shows at Heaton Park last year, Andy was the Mayor of Greater Manchester. Reflecting on the shows, Burnham said, "This is the day that Manchester has been waiting for. I've had a bit of contact with Noel in recent times; they're both brilliant, actually. Noel helped us out when we were raising funds for homelessness as part of Vincent Kompany's testimonial year."
He continued, "And Liam helped us out last year — he did the announcements on our trams to support a new music conference we have got in the city, Beyond The Music. I am just so pleased to see them back together. I never got to see them back in the day. I have seen them both individually, but never seen them together."
Possible future gigs
The news for Burnham comes as concert promoters SJM Concerts had an application granted for a string of dates at Knebworth. The licence application does not specify which artists would perform, but it mentions an expected capacity of 125,000 people and requests for live music, filming, late-night refreshments, and alcohol.
Liam Gallagher has seemingly hinted at more shows. When a fan on X asked about new music, he responded negatively, saying, "No, I'm just not prepared for the criticism if it doesn't sell 100 million copies in the 1st hour, cure bad breath and constipation for the nation, if it doesn’t turn back time for Cher and some other s**t, let's just go to some gigs and be happy, thank you."
In response to another fan's query about including "Gas Panic!" in the setlist, Liam simply replied, "Of course."
