Aldi and Lidl Greek Yoghurts Beat Yeo Valley in Taste Test

Budget supermarket own-brand Greek-style yoghurts from Aldi and Lidl have outperformed premium brands Yeo Valley and Tims Dairy in a blind taste test conducted by Which? The consumer group asked 64 yoghurt enthusiasts to sample 12 different Greek-style yoghurts, with the budget options emerging as joint winners on both taste and value.

Taste Test Results

Aldi's 500g tub, priced at just 95p, was praised for its flavour and appearance, with testers highlighting its thickness and creaminess. Lidl's 1kg tub at £1.49 also impressed, with three-quarters of respondents satisfied with its creaminess and strong flavour. In contrast, Yeo Valley's 450g tub, costing £2.25, came in slightly behind, despite being liked for its well-balanced flavour and creamy texture. The price difference is stark: Aldi's yoghurt costs £1.30 less per 500g than Yeo Valley.

Other Supermarket Yoghurts

According to Which?, most other supermarket own-brand Greek-style yoghurts scored similarly overall, though some were less thick and creamy. Sainsbury's was well-liked across the board, while Ocado's Greek-style yoghurt was noted for its thickness. Asda's Creamy Greek Style Yoghurt was deemed too sharp by nearly half of testers, and Morrisons' was considered too runny by some. Tims Dairy Natural Greek Family Yoghurt scored well for creaminess but did not stand out. Waitrose's Essential Natural Greek Style Yoghurt had good texture but half of testers found it too tangy. Co-op's Greek-style natural yoghurt was criticised by nearly half of testers for being too sharp and lacking creaminess. One-third of testers were unimpressed with M&S's Greek Style Natural Yoghurt, claiming it lacked tang. Tesco's Greek Style Yoghurt was found to be too runny and not creamy enough.
