Aaron Taylor-Johnson is currently one of the most talked-about actors as a potential new James Bond. Renowned for his versatility, he has captivated audiences in dramas, comedies, action movies, and beyond. First gaining fame in films like Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, the 36-year-old has become one of the UK's most sought-after box office draws. He is best known for roles in action and horror flicks such as Bullet Train, Kick-Ass, Avengers, and Nosferatu, all massive hits in cinemas and on streaming services.
However, away from his acting success, he is blissfully happy at home with his wife Sam. What many fans may not know is that Sam is 23 years his senior, raising the question: how did they get together?
Their First Meeting
Aaron and Sam first met in 2008 when he auditioned for the role of John Lennon in her film Nowhere Boy. At the time, Aaron was a teenager fresh off the success of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Due to Sam's busy schedule, she missed the original audition, so they decided it was easier for him to audition at her home. In the middle of divorcing her first husband, Jay Jopling, Sam admitted the timing was 'so inconvenient.' She told the Telegraph: 'In the end, I was like, OK, he'll have to come to my home. I opened my door to John Lennon. I instantly knew he was the guy.'
From Chemistry to Proposal
As filming began, the pair realized they had real chemistry off-screen. Once the movie wrapped, Aaron quickly proposed to Sam. Sam revealed they had never kissed or gone on a date, but the connection was so strong they went with it. Aaron told the Telegraph: 'I knew instantly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this person. I knew I wanted a family with her, I knew I wanted kids, and a month later she was pregnant with our first child.'
Family and Marriage
In July 2010, they welcomed their first child, Wylda Rae. They later had another daughter, Romy, in January 2012, and officially married five months later. The couple also developed a strong working partnership, with Aaron featuring heavily in Sam's directing projects.
Handling the Public's Fixation
As the public caught wind of their relationship, Aaron found the fixation on their marriage 'intrusive.' Sam, meanwhile, said she was not interested in chatter about their age gap. She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'If I gave a second thought to other people, I would be the unhappiest person, probably still in a miserable marriage. People like to talk about it. I'm like, Yeah, but it works better than my last marriage. It's lasted longer than a lot of my friends' marriages.'
With rumours that Aaron Taylor-Johnson could become the next James Bond, the couple will not avoid chatter any time soon.
