Over 8,000 people have already signed up to try and get tickets for Eatflix's 5D screenings of The Grinch in Newcastle this Christmas 2026. The announcement comes after nearly 20,000 people swarmed the cinema's website last year for festive screenings of Elf.
Eatflix's rise in Newcastle
Eatflix, the 5D film experience created by Geordie siblings Joe and Ollie Brack, started as an occasional event in Alfie's bar a few years ago. The opening of a dedicated venue in a former dance hall on Chillingham Road in Heaton at the start of 2025 saw a host of Newcastle United stars attend its red carpet VIP launch night.
Over the last 18 months, tickets have sold for eat-along screenings of films including Mamma Mia, Scream, Hocus Pocus, The Goonies and, most recently, Grease. However, demand for all of those pales in comparison to the interest in Elf last Christmas, with over 19,000 people trying to get tickets at the same time for 5D screenings of the Will Ferrell film.
Pre-sale details for The Grinch
After a few teasers, Eatflix officially announced last weekend that The Grinch, starring Jim Carrey, was their chosen movie for this Christmas 2026. As of Friday, well over 8,000 people had signed up for the pre-sale, which begins on Friday, August 28.
Having raised money for local causes in the past, Eatflix will give a donation from every ticket sold for The Grinch to Cash for Kids' Mission Christmas, helping make Christmas special for children who need it most.
Second venue in Tynemouth
The excitement over The Grinch comes right after Eatflix announced the opening of their second venue, as Joe and Ollie and their team work to transform the Palace Buildings at Grand Parade in Tynemouth.
